Estes Park

This is another one of our favorite places and again it didn’t disappoint.

We stayed at Discovery Lodge. It is affordable and walking distance to town. We have stayed here a couple times. They have a nice breakfast with the waffles, meat, eggs, etc.

We took the shuttle into the park. It costs $2.00 each and was well worth it. They run every half hour. You don’t need to worry about having a timed entry permit if on the shuttle but you still need to purchase a park pass. I really can’t say enough about the helpfulness of the staff working there.

We enjoyed hiking to Emerald Lake Trail. It is located in the Rocky Mountain National Park. You go past Nymph, Dream and then finally Emerald Lake. It is 3.6 miles round trip and rated moderately difficult. I guess I would agree but it is a lot of up hill! We also did Bear Lake. That was five and a half miles of hiking. The next day we did Haiyaha and Alberta Falls, a six mile day. The trails are maintained very well and the signage is great. Again people were so friendly and encouraging on the hike.

We enjoyed many restaurants in the Estes area.

Sol for the view. A rooftop restaurant with delicious chips, guacamole, and tacos. A must do for the atmosphere.

Probably our best meal was at Claires Restaurant. Again we shared a steak, a Rib eye this time and I had an amazing salad that had slivered almonds and a champagne balsamic dressing that was out of this world. This is a little on the speedy side but so worth it. We ate outside and it is like sitting on someone’s front porch. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

We also ate at Mama Roses, which is Italian and a great beautiful location on the stream. We also had fajitas at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant. We enjoyed sitting outside by the creek. The prices were reasonable and the food was good. You can’t really go wrong with fajitas can you?

For a great drink go to Ed’s Cantina and Grill. They have jalapeño infused tequila that they use for a spicy margarita. It is yummy! I also tried the avocado margarita with this vodka and it was just as good.

The Wheel is a fun hole in the wall bar.

Bogey’s is a fun sports bar. They are from Chicago and serve Mallory! IYKYK. The vibe is very friendly and fun.
