We conquered Manitou Incline! All 2,768 steps, It has a gain of 2,000 feet in altitude in less than a mile. It was brutal! There are points where you are crawling up the stairs because they are so steep. I feel bad because I did hold David back, my breathing was very challenging. I recently was diagnosed with asthma and I didn’t have the right inhaler. (first lesson learned) It was just so hard to catch my breath. It was a very humbling experience. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but I wasn’t prepared for how hard it was. I just kept saying slow and steady and thanking God that I am able to do this. We made friends along the way and everyone was so encouraging. When you make it to the top there are people up there that are cheering saying good job. There are people that do this a couple times a day! Her name is Ella and she is a beast! She runs. I’m not sure if I will ever do something like this again but it was a great challenge and a memory I will cherish in completing for the rest of my life.
We took the shuttle from right outside our door for free right to the parking lot. It was pretty slick. There are three stops in Manitou Springs and it runs every 20 minutes.
A reservation is required (?) for the incline. I did it on line and no one ever checked at all
